THE TASK

CHEM Trust is a charity aiming to protect people and wildlife from harmful chemicals. The purpose of PR is to raise awareness of harmful chemicals in everyday items amongst key audiences, so they know what needs to be done to solve the issue. 

THE SOLUTION

CLO PR have been working with CHEM Trust by supporting their policy-led initiatives, campaigning for the Government to be more in line with chemical regulations like the EU. We’ve also been raising awareness of their expertise in the consumer press, through features, by highlighting the dangers of chemicals in cosmetics and toiletries, to food and baby products. We jump on news stories around chemicals and place reactive comment. For one project, we created a widespread media buzz around a letter signed by 56 prominent global scientists, calling on the UK government to ban the manufacture of the PFAS, or ‘forever chemicals’.

THE IMPACT

The academics letter alone generated 160 pieces of national and regional coverage in print and online, including The Independent, Yahoo! News, Northern Echo and The National (Scotland). The overall reach exceeded 131 million. The regional coverage was particularly strong and chimed with CHEM Trust’s desire to reach MPs. We continue to secure coverage for them on a monthly basis.
