UK COUNCIL FOR PSYCHOTHERAPY

THE TASK

Long standing client, UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), needed to build greater awareness of its professional member organisation, as well as communicate talking therapies as beneficial to those in need. CLO PR continues to bring to life evidence that mental health is of equal importance as physical health to the general public, positioning the UKCP as a credible and trustworthy voice for the psychotherapy profession.

THE SOLUTION

It was clear that PR needed to better support and complement UKCP’s broader marketing and communications activity with a more joined up approach. A PR strategy was developed to promote psychotherapy to the public, operating a fully functioning press office integrated with the marketing and public affairs activity. CLO PR manages proactive and reactive media opportunities that tap into the political and public agenda, which have included Covid 19 and Brexit. Activity spans the profile raising of member psychotherapists and UKCP Chief Exec as experts in the mental health arena. Broader campaign work focuses on representing and championing the entire mental health medical profession (such as psychology and psychiatry) for key initiatives such as the NICE depression guidelines.

THE IMPACT

PR has amassed hundreds of pieces of coverage in the national, regional, consumer and trade press, with a reach in the millions. UKCP is regularly featured in titles such as The Guardian, ITV, BBC and The Times. Activity has helped to support the wider efforts to drive up psychotherapist memberships, traffic to the UKCP’s website and increase members’ client bases too.
